Florida Window Tint Laws: A Delray Beach Tesla Owner’s Guide to Legal VLT Limits

By Erkin Makhmudov

Florida’s window tint rules can be detailed and specific to vehicle type. For Tesla owners in Delray Beach, knowing the visible light transmission (VLT) limits is essential to remain compliant and avoid fines.

What are Florida’s legal window tint percentages for Tesla owners?

Florida law requires at least 28% visible light transmission on the front side windows when the film is tested on the vehicle’s glass. For windows behind the driver, the minimum is generally 15%, or 6% on qualifying multipurpose passenger vehicles. Reflectance limits also apply. Requirements vary by vehicle type and window position, so an installer should measure the combined glass-and-film result before selecting a film. See Florida Statutes §§ 316.2953–316.2954 for the current rules.

How is visible light transmission measured?

VLT is the percentage of visible light that passes through the glass and installed film together. Factory glass can already be tinted, so film ratings alone do not determine the final reading.

What unique considerations apply to Teslas?

Tesla glass roofs, large rear windows and factory glazing make careful product selection and precise installation important. NDPRO can discuss film choices for comfort, privacy and the vehicle’s glass design.
